Hughes Mountain Ranch
Whether you're searching for adventure or simply need a little peace and quiet, the Hughes Mountain Ranch is a perfect fit. The Little Belt Mountains of Judith Basin County bear witness to over 100 years of ranching by the Hughes family, and we strive to preserve the flavor, landscapes, and lore of the West while sharing it through environmentally conscious vacations.
Set Your Sights on a Memorable Bow or Rifle Hunting Excursion:
The Hughes’ private property encompasses 11,000+ acres in the Little Belt Mountains providing the solitude most sportsmen desire. Whether you want the week to yourself or wish to bring five companions, the ranch will be entirely yours for six days. The Hughes property is located in hunting districts 448 and 420 and borders 3.5 miles of the Judith River Wildlife Management Area and 4.5 miles of the Lewis and Clark National Forest. Hughes Mountain Ranch is home to a Rocky Mountain Elk, Mule Deer, Whitetail Deer, Antelope, & several species of game birds. An elk count conducted in 2006 by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks reported a total of 1200 head in these two districts.
From Nature Trails to History Tales:
We will supply coordinates, maps and wide open spaces - you will need to bring your spirit of adventure! Cache boxes stashed throughout 15 square miles will allow you and your family to scour this wild environment in search of hidden treasure. In addition to geocaching, the Hughes Mountain Ranch offers a range of opportunities for its guests to enjoy the outdoors. For nature enthusiasts, our maps will also guide you to hiking and biking trails, fishing holes, elk horn hunting and areas for bird and wildlife watching. Horseback outings are available upon request or you might fancy bringing your own horse. And to learn about some history of Russell Country, The CM Russell Auto Tour will guide you through the landscape that inspired Russell’s paintings, including areas located on Hughes property.
